The Xbox 360 is more than just a simple gaming console as in the last few years Microsoft has put a lot of effort into further expanding the horizon of the company’s second console which is due for a replacement probably next year. A few days ago Microsoft announced a partnership with Paramount Pictures for launching a joint application that allows users who are subscribed to Xbox Live Gold to stream rented or acquired movies on the Xbox 360.

New titles will be added on a frequent basis and to access the titles you must have a gold membership subscription to Xbox Live, as well as registered accounts at Paramount and UltraViolet. As some of you may now, Paramount started selling digital movies earlier this year straight from its website through UltraViolet, allowing the users to download the movie and keep a copy of it in the cloud. This new Paramount application for the Xbox 360 makes things easier for a user to watch a movie on the TV.

Paramount has hundreds of titles to choose from basically just about any genre that you can think of. You might want to know that users of this new application will not be able to rent or buy the movie straight from the application as you still have to go to the Paramount website in order to grab the wanted movie.

Paramount also signed up a deal last month with Amazon for the Prime service, while a week after that Amazon Instant Video teamed up with Microsoft’s Xbox 360 for rolling out yet another application to play movies from the Instant Video service. The gaming console already has several other movie watching-oriented applications, such as ESPN, Netflix, Comcast, HBO Go, YouTube and Hulu Plus.
